Eye and eye area are one of the important structures that give a beautiful appearance to the face. The beauty of this area decreases with the increase of prominent skin and under eye bags over time. Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is an attempt to remove these prominent surplus skin and shrink the marked eye bags. This surgery can be performed alone or combined with other aesthetic surgeries performed on the face.
With normal aging, the skin on the eyelid hangs, wrinkles increase and under eye bags become prominent.
While the prominent skin on the eyelid and the under eye bags are corrected with this operation, it is not possible to eliminate the goose's feet wrinkled on the side of the eye alone.
A different surgical procedure is required to eliminate goose's feet (botilinum toxin, laser, muscle lifting).Properly performed blepharoplasty will provide with a beautiful and young appearance to the eye area. One of the most important things you should remember here is that the result will not show up immediately after the operation. Following swelling and wound healing, the eyelids will take the desired shape.
Am I Suitable for The Operation?
Healthy people with wrinkles, under-eye bags, and low eyelids with a marked increase in skin on the eyelid may have this operation. Whether you are SUITABLE for this operation and how satisfied you will be with the outcome after this operation can be determined after an interview with you in our clinic.
What Does Operation Include?
This operation is performed on the natural line of the skin about 1 cm above the eyelashes with an incision made 1-2 mm below the eyelashes or through the eyelid. The aim of this operation is to correct the surplus skin and fat tissue.
What Type of Anesthesia is Applied?
If the eyelid operations are performed alone, the operation can be performed comfortably with a sedative and local anesthesia given to the patient. It is also possible to perform these operations under general anesthesia if preferred. Whichever method is used, it is not required for person to be hospitalized.
What is The Duration of The Operation?
This operation takes about 1 or 1.5 hours.
Is The Operation Painful?
There may be slight dullness and pain on the eyelid after the operation, if there's any mild pain, painkillers may provide relief. Some people may experience drowsiness in the eyelid. In such cases, drowsiness will return to normal within a few weeks.
What Happens After Operation?
Following operation, there are varying rates of swelling and bruising around the eyes. In very rare cases, blood can leak from the areas where incisions made.
In order to reduce swelling and bruising on the eyes, cold ice bags will be applied. Most of the sutures in the upper eyelid and lower eyelid will be under the skin and invisible. There will be small bands on the sides of the eyelid.
Eyelid cleaning should be done very politely. Swelling will be significantly reduced in 10 days, but it will take more time for bruises to disappear. Laying with head and body up-high and applying cold will reduce the formation of swelling and bruises.
How is The Scar Like?
Scar is inevitable due to the surgical procedure. It is correct to say that the scars formed after the eyelid operation are not obvious. Therefore, you shouldn’t worry about the scar.
What Kind of Problems May I Encounter During and After The Operation?
Like all surgical procedures, eyelid aesthetics carry some risks too. The risks are minimized when the surgery is performed by an experienced plastic surgeon. Although the anatomy, physical reactions and the response of the tissues to healing are different, it is not possible to predict the exact results.
Care should be taken especially in patients over 50 years of age against eye dryness and care should be given by use of gels containing eye-drops to keep the eye moist after operation. Otherwise, there will be stingy feeling that may last for days.
How Long Does It Take Me to Return to Normal?
